20A Growing Social Capital

1. For the domain expert in this field, I interviewed my friend Jackson who is now in professional baseball. I chose to interview him because he as left the NCAA regulations and has the opportunity to market himself and make money off of his likeness. This is the same industry ad the NCAA, in pro sports, that allows their players to take advantage of their platforms for the benefit of themselves. I think that he would be a great asset to have because being a former player in the NCAA, you can say more things to the media and companies about how athletes are treated in the NCAA. As a pro, he said that the schedule of a student athlete is more rigorous and time consuming. He added that looking back on it, there were a lot longer days and more things on the agenda than in pro ball. He has access to different brands and different markets that would be a great add to my plan and this opportunity.

2. One person that would be an expert in my Market would be my father. MY dad has started up businesses from the ground and built them into very successful businesses. Currently, he owns and operates a business that helps with getting more accessible exposure to sporting events nationwide. These events like high school games, youth games are designed to help the parents and others get the opportunity to watch and support from any location via streaming. He would be able to help me market this plan because of all the connections he has with big media markets. The best thing for this opportunity would be to gain exposure and popularity. Getting big time networks in the media involved would have a big impact on my opportunity. He is helping me with out any catch as this opportunity is to help a wide variety of people rather than just me.

3. My supplier in this market would be the Director of baseball operations,Buddy. I think he would be a great supplier for this market because if this idea passes, he would be one of the people that would be heavily involved with monitoring the access the athletes have to the companies and visa versa. He deals a lot with recruiting and other team issues and he would be the liaison between the athletes on the baseball team, and compliance who would be the representative from the NCAA. Adding him to my social capital would give me an insight on what the difficulties with the recruiting, with illegal terms of these actions that would come about and would help me communicate with the top people involved.

Reflect:
In marketing a business or any opportunity, the main objective is to get the brand out there and to get across to as many people as possible. I believe that knowing as many people as you can can help market the business but can also set yourself up for future opportunities with other companies for partnerships and mergers. I think that it was good to network with people who were different than who I have used but also people I personally know. Using them in a professional matter adds to the networking as they know other people who can link up and work together in this industry. Branching out is important in the business world and it is better to start younger in order to continue to build off of that.

  1. Hey, Tyler! After reading your post, it's clear you talked to the right people in your respective field, and I think you chose the right business idea because you're already super involved in collegiate/professional sports. I think your friend Jackson would be your most valuable asset because you can take his real life experiences and lessons learned to give athletes the best competitive experience. On a side note, just make sure to proof-read your posts for grammar errors! Some of your paragraphs got confusing.

  2. Hi Tyler,
Similar to what Kristen said, I also think that you have contacted the right people for your respective field, as well as choosing an opportunity that you are most definitely passionate about. I believe that given your background as a student athlete, this will help you network with other student athletes to assure that all the elements of your opportunity are effective and efficient. Also, I think that it was important to include your father as a person to choose because as you said he has started up businesses and given his relationship with you, I am confident that he would also help your business endeavors as well. With all of these connections you have, I find it difficult to see you failing with this opportunity.

  3. Hi Tyler,

I think you made great decisions with your choices on who to contact. I think the most important person would be Buddy, your supplier in your market. Considering he would be the person to make sure this who idea doesn't get abused or get out of hand, I think he would be great for the job. His insight would be crucial to the growth of your project. Similar to what Travis said, I also agree that having your father in the mix is beneficial, mainly because he knows you best and how you can make this idea come to fruition.
